Leean Sahagun's Biography

I began in clay with a class at Haeger pottery in the early 80’s (yes 1980’s) and continued to take pottery and ceramics classes through local colleges. As far as clay went, my husband and I built a kickwheel (which we used at the Renaissance Faire 2007 and 2008!) . I used the kickwheel to throw pots at home until I was 9 months pregnant. As some of you are aware, kids change your life, so I settled down with a small studio and threw pots when time allowed. I finished my bachelor’s degree (only in business and management), not realizing that it should have been in ART!

Anyway, continued on my merry way until I realized I needed to get serious about my habit and have been teaching, making work, and continuing to educate myself through many workshops since 2000. I joined Jailhouse Potters in 2001 and proceeded to become sole owner of Jailhouse Potters LLC in January 2002.

Following are the workshops I have attended. I am also taking as many art classes as possible and the goal is a Masters in Art as soon as time and money allow.

I love clay and cannot imagine my life without it. There are so many directions and paths to follow that I get lost in one, only to find a link to another. Teaching is always a great experience for me also. For one, meeting so many wonderful people and two, watching everyone learn and develop in their own way. And then, seeing others become addicted to this wonderful art form where they can develop their own creative ideas makes me even more sure this is the right path for me.
